Faculty Position Announcement – Local Government Management
School of Public Administration, University of Nebraska Omaha

The School of Public Administration, University of Nebraska Omaha, seeks applicants for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor with an emphasis in local government management, to begin August 2020. A Ph.D. in Public Administration or a relevant field is required by the employment start date. We seek candidates who will make significant teaching and research contributions in our degree programs, including: Ph.D. in Public Administration, MPA, and Master of Science in Urban Studies. We are looking for someone whose work connects local government to broader governance issues. Preference will be given to candidates who have the ability to teach courses in municipal administration, as well as ethics and/or quantitative research methods/data analytics. The course teaching load for this position is 2:2. Candidates should also be able to teach in both face-to-face and online settings, and demonstrate excellence in research, teaching, and a commitment to community engagement. The School of Public Administration boasts a supportive and collaborative academic culture in our mission to strengthen public service in a democratice and diverse society. We are home to one of the longest-accredited MPA programs in the country, which is offered both online and on campus with an enrollment of approximately 275 students. The MPA program is ranked #8 nationally in local government management, as well as #4 in public finance and budgeting, #11 in nonprofit management, and is in the top 10% of ranked programs overall. The Master of Science in Urban Studies program attracts social entrepreneurs, urban thinkers and agents of change. Our Ph.D. in Public Administration program includes a specialization in Urban Management, and faculty regularly work with our doctoral students.

Community engagement is a strong focus for the School, which is located in the College of Public Affairs and Community Service. We have an active network of local government alumni in the region, and our faculty and students work closely with the Nebraska City/County Management Association as well as the International City/County Management Association. Valuable resources are available for grant and
contract opportunities, including the Center for Public Affairs Research, the Center for Collaboration Science, and the Barbara A. Weitz Community Engagement Center.
